This is something new we are starting to do on the blog… bigging up some of the great companies we’ve had the opportunity to work with. First up is Ellite Performers who we have helped out with both video and photography services. They’re running a great operation and providing dance services for some great brands including the likes of Microsoft, BMW and Virgin Media.
You can find some more information about the company below.
“Ellite Performers is an exciting, innovative dance company offering professional dancers, singers and choreographers for any event.
All of our cast members have been through a rigorous audition process, ensuring that only performers of the highest quality are used in our shows and productions.
Whatever the event, product launch, trade show, exhibition, private function, corporate event or themed party, Ellite Performers are able to provide professional, friendly advice. We are based in Leeds, West Yorkshire but regularly provide dancers and choreography services to clients in England, Wales and Scotland with popular locations including Sheffield, Chester, Liverpool, Bradford, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and London.
No matter how small or large the event, we have something to suit your needs. Our shows and productions range from 2 to 30+ cast members.”
We are excited to report that we were commissioned to shoot and edit a news report on up and coming boxer ‘Kid Galahad’ in the run up to his title fight with Jason Booth. The report commissioned by broadcasting giant Aljazeera Sports was beamed out last week before the match and was a real test of capturing quality visuals and audio in a busy, training environment.
All footage was captured on the ever popular Canon 5d with L series glass with sound recorded separately and synced in post. Time was of the essence with tight deadlines for final output to be sent to the Middle-East within 24 hours. This resulted in rushes being transferred and tied up with audio as well as a quick assemble in FCP in Yorkshire before transferring selected material to central London via FTP for a fast edit and voiceover recording the next day.
The final cut looked great and everyone was happy so a great job all around. The other great news is that Kid Galahad won the title with a unanimous points win!
We are currently prepping two new digital shorts to shoot and post-produce in 2012. Both shorts will be produced under our new Civil Disobedience brand which aims to place emphasis on creating dramatic fiction that isn’t afraid to go to some dark places.
‘Burned’ is a micro short that is being put together for the upcoming Virgin Media Shorts competition. I’m sure most people will be aware of it but if you haven’t go check out http://www.virginmediashorts.co.uk .
‘Cheated’ is a twenty minute drama that will be shot and marketed as a sample for a proposed 6 episode television series. Focus will be on making a show with heavy emphasis on cinematography and visual storytelling as opposed to dialogue heavy material that is shot in a routine fashion.
You can find out more about both films at the links below.
I’ve been a subscriber to American Cinematographer magazine for a good few years now and it’s an incredible resource for any one interested in the art of cinematography. Covering film, television, short film, music videos, commercials, installations it’s a real insight into the mind of a director of photography as they break down their approach to shooting a particular project.
I’m a big fan (we always have copies lying about in the Giant Leap Productions office) and it was a big shock for me to find out there is a resource page on the ASC website containing downloadable podcasts free of charge. I have since devoured them all and can give them a huge double thumbs up.
Podcasts available include, Breaking Bad (Michael Slovis, ASC), Buried (Eduard Grau), Valhalla Rising (Morton Soberg), Lost (John Bartley, ASC), Valkyrie (Newton Thomas Sigel, ASC) and many more.
We are on the hunt for a freelance make-up artist (ideally based in the Yorkshire region) for hire on both video and photographic shoots. If this is of any interest please drop an email to video@giantleapproductions.co.uk and we can arrange a quick chat to go over requirements.
Any regular freelancers will be allotted space on our website to give an overview of their skills as well as host their portfolio.
We are getting lots and lots of emails requesting consideration for freelance position or full time employment and we’re sorry to say that there aren’t really any positions available at present.
We do, however, have an occasional need for new freelancers if our regular crew members are unavailable so if you would like us to keep you on our books please send a biog of no more than 100 words, contact details and a link to your show reel via video@giantleapproductions.co.uk.
As well as being a good place for us to look for new talent when opportunities arise it should also help build an awareness of freelancers in the area and what specialities they have. It’s always good to network!
